The City of Portsmouth Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of the City of Portsmouth improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Horticulture, Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development.

The Portsmouth Unit VCE Agents are building relationships and collaborative partnerships within the Portsmouth community by helping citizens put scientific knowledge to work through learning experiences that improve economic, environmental, and social well-being.  

Here’s information on some of the impacts of the VCE Agents in Portsmouth.   VCE partnered with Churchland Primary & Intermediate School to continue the youth garden program. The FCS Agent focused on health & wellness through the Fit Extension & LIFT  programs.

The Family Nutrition Program’s mission is to teach limited-resource families and youth how to make healthier food choices and become better managers of available food resources for optimal health and growth. The program focuses on basic nutrition, physical activity, safe food handling, and thrifty food shopping.
