Deanna Heggen

DeAnna Heggen is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia.  She has been with the Portsmouth Extension Office since September, 2000.  Prior to coming to Extension, she was a part time Nutrition Assistant at the Portsmouth WIC Office. 

She has an Associate of Science Degree in Hotel Restaurant Management, specializing in Dietetics from Tidewater Community College.  DeAnna is also a registered dietetic technician. 

The Family Nutrition Program’s mission is to teach limited-resource families and youth how to make healthier food choices and become better managers of available food resources for optimal health and growth. The program focuses on basic nutrition, physical activity, safe food handling, and thrifty food shopping.

As a Program Assistant, DeAnna enjoys meeting new people and interacting with families, teaching them how to cook healthier.  She states that she feels a certain sense of accomplishment when she knows they are making small changes towards that goal.
